Terms of service
Last updated: May 12, 2026
These terms govern your church's use of ChurchTranslator.AI ("the Service"), operated by Openclaw Software, LLC ("we," "us"). By signing up you agree to these terms. If you don't, don't use the Service. We try to keep this short and human — if anything is unclear, email help@churchtranslator.ai.
1. What you're paying for
Access to our real-time translation pipeline (audio capture, AI translation, listener delivery), the operator dashboard, and the listener web app, plus reasonable email support during US business hours. Your specific plan (Pay-As-You-Grow, Flat Rate, or any custom arrangement) determines the included languages, hours, and any usage-based charges. Current pricing is on the home page and updates to your subscription happen transparently in Stripe.
2. Free trial
New tenants get a 7-day free trial. You provide a payment method at signup (Stripe collects it; we never see your card), but it isn't charged until day 7. You can cancel any time before then without charge. If you don't cancel by day 7, billing begins at the plan you signed up for.
3. Billing
Stripe handles all payments. Subscriptions renew monthly on the day you signed up. Language additions, removals, and plan switches are prorated automatically — Stripe credits the unused portion of the old configuration and charges for the new one on your next invoice.
Pay-As-You-Grow usage charges (per-translated-minute AI Compute Cost) are metered server-side and billed at the end of each cycle. You can set soft + hard spend caps in the dashboard at any time.
Failed payments: we'll retry the card three times over a week. After that the subscription pauses — translation service stops; the dashboard stays accessible so you can update payment.
4. Cancellation
Cancel any time from the Stripe Customer Portal (reachable from the Billing page in the dashboard). Service stays live until the end of your current billing cycle. We don't pro-rate refunds for cancellation mid-cycle — you keep using the service until the cycle ends.
If you signed up by mistake, email us within 7 days and we refund anything charged. We're not in the business of fighting refund requests from churches.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Translate content you don't have the right to translate (e.g. copyrighted audio you don't own or have license to use)
- Send audio that's illegal in your jurisdiction (threats, harassment, defamation, etc.)
- Reverse-engineer the pipeline to extract translated text for redistribution as a standalone translation service
- Share capture-app pairing tokens across tenants or with anyone outside your church admin team
- Resell access to listener URLs (the QR code stays scoped to your church's congregation + visitors)
We may suspend the account of any tenant we reasonably believe is violating these rules. We'll always tell you why before suspending, except in cases where doing so would enable further harm.
6. Ownership
You own your sermon content, your branding, your audience list. We don't claim any rights to your sermons by processing them through the platform. We own the platform software itself, the AI pipeline, the dashboard, and the listener web app — none of which we license to you outside of the use described in these terms.
You can't redistribute the capture app outside your tenant. You can use the listener URL freely — print it on bulletins, share it on your church website, embed it in your service guides.
7. Availability and limits
We target 99.5% monthly uptime measured during Sunday service windows (the time most churches actually use us). We do scheduled maintenance during off-hours (Tuesday and Thursday mornings, Pacific time). If we fall short of 99.5% during your Sunday windows in a given month, email us and we'll credit a prorated portion of that month's fee.
The service depends on third parties (OpenAI's translation API, Cloudflare, Fly.io). Their outages affect us. We work around them where possible (fallback paths, retry logic) but can't guarantee zero impact.
8. Liability
The service is provided "as is." We won't guarantee perfect translation accuracy — AI translation is imperfect, especially on doctrinal nuance, names, and church-specific terminology. Don't use the platform as the sole channel for legally binding communication or emergency announcements.
To the extent allowed by law, our total liability to your church under these terms in any 12-month period is limited to the amount you paid us during that period. We aren't liable for indirect, consequential, or incidental damages (lost services, missed opportunities, etc.).
9. Privacy
See our privacy policy for what we collect, where it lives, and how to delete it. We treat sermon audio as sensitive; it does not enter long-term storage unless you opt in to recording.
10. Changes to these terms
We'll email all active tenants if we make material changes. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the current version. If you don't agree with a change, cancel before it takes effect; otherwise continued use means you accept it.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, USA. Disputes go to a Washington court, except where applicable consumer-protection law gives your church stronger rights — those rights still apply.
